A Comparison of the Mutual Exclusion Features in Ada and the Real-Time Specification for Java TM

چکیده

A concurrent program generally comprises a collection of threads1 that interact cooperatively, either directly or through shared data objects. In the latter case the sharing needs to be implemented by some mechanism that ensures mutually exclusive access, or possibly “concurrent read / exclusive write”. Ada and the Real-Time Specification for Java have taken different approaches to mutual exclusion. This paper analyzes and compares them with respect to programming style (clarity, encapsulation, avoidance of errors such as deadlock), priority inversion management, expressibility/generality, and efficiency. It also looks at interactions with exceptions and asynchronous transfer of control.

A Comparison of the Concurrency and Real-Time Features of Ada 95 and Java

1. ABSTRACT Both Ada and Java support concurrent programming, but through quite different approaches. Ada has built-in tasking features with concurrency semantics, independent of the language’s OOP model, whereas Java’s thread support relies on OOP and is based on special execution properties of methods in several predefined classes. Ada achieves mutual exclusion through protected objects with ...

Formal Analysis of a Real-Time Kernel Specification

The speciication of a real-time kernel and the analysis of certain properties of the kernel using the PVS system is presented in this paper. The kernel is designed to provide the minimal functionality to support real-time Ada 95 applications on a uniprocessor system, and the requirements for the kernel are derived from this. The speciication consists of an abstract model of the functional and t...

An ECC-Based Mutual Authentication Scheme with One Time Signature (OTS) in Advanced Metering Infrastructure

Advanced metering infrastructure (AMI) is a key part of the smart grid; thus, one of the most important concerns is to offer a secure mutual authentication.  This study focuses on communication between a smart meter and a server on the utility side. Hence, a mutual authentication mechanism in AMI is presented based on the elliptic curve cryptography (ECC) and one time signature (OTS) consists o...

Studying the Adjustment Amount of Ranking the Performance of Mutual Funds Based on Omega Ratio and Real Return

One of the main functionalities of capital market is to enhance liquidity in the market. Mutual funds are modern financial institutions which are designed with the aim of absorbing funds from investors and devote them to buy a variety of securities in order to reduce investment risks, exploit the economies of scale and finally make a reasonable return for investors. Regarding effective role of ...

An Improved Token-Based and Starvation Free Distributed Mutual Exclusion Algorithm

Distributed mutual exclusion is a fundamental problem of distributed systems that coordinates the access to critical shared resources. It concerns with how the various distributed processes access to the shared resources in a mutually exclusive manner. This paper presents fully distributed improved token based mutual exclusion algorithm for distributed system. In this algorithm, a process which...
